Connecting Infrastructure, Connecting Research

Welcome to the Leeds node of the NGS

The National Grid Service aims to provide coherent electronic access for UK researchers to all computational and data based resources and facilities required to carry out their research, independent of resource or researcher location. NGS resources are available free of charge to all UK researchers.

What's Available

Documentation for the Leeds NGS node - ngs.leeds.ac.uk - can be found here.

Further information about the NGS and other NGS sites is available here.

Gaining Access

There are two common steps to follow before you can get your jobs running on the Leeds NGS cluster.

Connecting to the National Grid Service

There are a variety of methods that enable you to connect to the National Grid Service and you can choose whichever one suits your working environment and skills:

If you have a Linux operating system you may wish to install the Globus toolkit so you can connect directly from your local system. Connection and setup instructions are here.

For users who have a Windows operating system, or any system with the Java runtime environment installed, the GSI-SSH terminal is the easiest option.  It can be run as a stand alone application on your desktop or you can use the applet on the NGS website to connect to ngs.leeds.ac.uk.

Getting Help
